I have white walls on my scoot. When I try and clean my mag's foremost beauty edge that borderlines the tire, (white wall). It's almost impossible to kept the black aluminum residue off the white walls. Especially if your in a hurry to ride and don't want to spend all day shining this part of the aluminum wheel.
When I had to change my tires. While the tires were removed from the mags. I did the following, (which is not an easy task.) If you look closely, the part of the mag that borderlines the tire. You'll notice that when the mag was made. There's little groves in the aluminum that keeps u from getting a smooth shine. I went through different stages of wet sanding this surface. I started with 400 grit wet sand paper and the onto 600 grit and then 1000 grit and 1500 grit, 2000 grit, 2500 grit. It takes awhile, but eventually you'll have it smooth as a babies ass. That's the trick to getting aluminum to be ready to have a surface to shine like chrome. You have to get it virtually smooth for a chrome finish look. Once you have achieved this. u Then polish the surface to a brilliant shine. Now, when your tires are mounted and you find yourself washing your scoot. The mags will look like you had this edge chromed and even with a quick wash. It will look like u spent all day on them. What has happened. Is there's no groves that can trap dirt or oxidation anymore. And it does look sweet. Also for polishing aluminum. I use Zephor 40 ( not sure of spelling) It was originally known as "poor man's polish" designed by a truck driver but a company bought his patent. This polish is green in color and goes on, like Mothers Polish What I like about this product, is if you do it in the sun or leave it on all day. It will turn white when it dries. BUT, it wipes off with ease, unlike Mother's Polish, which is a Mother to get off after the sun baked it on!
